MARY (born October 28, 2005)

  Mary comes from the same poor tribal village that Kumari is from. While little Mary was still in the womb of her mother, the father abandoned them and "married" another woman, not really legal in India, but not hard to do in many of the villages. The mother desired to get remarried to another man, but he agreed to marry her only if she gave the child to the grandparents. This seems to be VERY common in India: remarriage very difficult if there are children already in the picture. So the mother left Mary with her poor parents, never returning to even inquire into the welfare of her small daughter. After some time the grandfather became unable to go to work and the elderly couple struggled to even feed themselves, let alone little Mary. Somehow they heard about HOPE and both brought her to the home. She cried often in the beginning, but is much happier now. Pray for total healing and comfort in her heart.
